You need both. The Server is what actually works for you; the app on the phone is its remote control. The Service through which the two devices find each other is run by us — there is nothing else to download and nothing to set up.

You click through the installer and the coden command is then in the PATH, from anywhere. You run it over the project's directory; nothing runs in the background or at system start.

The app on your phone will tell you when a new version is out. You then download the installer with
coden --update
— you install it yourself; the Server does not overwrite itself while running.
The remote control. You pair it with the Server by scanning a QR code, and from that moment you no longer have to be at the computer.
